DBT Tape Machine
DBT Tape Machine
DBT Tape Machine is an Ableton rack that emulates the character of a real tape recorder. Color your instruments, buses, or even your master with the warmth, grit and movement of analog tape.
Eight macros, each one a real tape behavior. Push it gently for a subtle vintage glue, or drive it hard for a fully broken cassette sound.
The 8 macros
DRIVE. The heart of the machine. Push it up and your sound gets thicker, denser and more alive, just like recording hot to a real reel.
TAPE COLOR. Dials in the character of the saturation. Turn it one way for a warm, fat low end. Turn it the other way for a brighter, more biting tone.
TAPE SPEED. Recreates the sound of different tape speeds. Slow speeds sound narrow and dark, closer to an old dubplate. Fast speeds open everything up for a wide, modern studio tape sound.
AGE. How old and worn your machine sounds. Clean and fresh at one end, worn and lo fi like a beaten up cassette at the other.
WOW. That slow, seasick pitch wobble old tapes are known for. Barely there at low settings, fully drunk at high ones.
FLUTTER. A faster, subtler wobble that gives your sound life and movement, the little imperfection that makes something sound real instead of perfectly digital.
NOISE. The gentle hiss of tape, always sitting quietly underneath, growing louder the more you push the machine.
OUTPUT. Final volume trim.
