DBT Hex Kit, 15 €. This device is an emulation of the Simmons SDS V, the electronic drum kit from 1981 with hexagonal pads. It has five voices, which are a bass drum, a snare and three toms, and each voice has its own trigger. You can send the voices to a shared mix or to separate outputs, so every tom can have its own reverb.

What we chased

We wanted to recreate the classic sound of electronic drum kits with hexagonal pads.

The controls

FIVE VOICES
Hex Kit has five voices, a bass, a snare and three toms, and each one has its own trigger.

NOISE, TONE AND BEND
The NOISE knob mixes in the noise of each hit, the TONE knob sets its color, and the BEND knob bends the pitch of each hit.

DECAY
The DECAY knob lengthens the envelope of the sound.

CLICK DRUM
The CLICK DRUM knob adds the click of a stick on the skin.

OUTPUTS
Each of the five channels has a SENS knob, a VOL knob and an output choice, either the MIX or separate outputs.

TWO LOOKS
You can change the look by clicking the screw on the top left. The default look follows your Ableton theme, and the other is the light hardware face.

Good to know

This device works with Ableton Live 11 and 12, and it needs Max for Live.
